Notes
The Tripolitanian section of the great trunk road from Carthage to Alexandria was most likely constructed during the first two centuries AD. The Emperor Claudius is known to have restored and widened a Carthaginian trail and extended it west and east, thereby creating a continuous coastal highway that stretched for 2,100 miles from the Atlantic to the Nile.
