Scope

'Photographs relate to Cassels\' expedition to Cyrene during the years 1953 and 1954 and subsequent publication "The Cemetaries at Cyrene". Photographs primarily relate to cemetaries at Cyrene and show tombs and finds from the Eastern, Northern, Southern and Western Necropoleis. However, photographs are also present relating to other sites in Cyrenaica including Messa, Ngarnes [Mghernes, Ras el Hilal and Tolmeita.', Series includes original photographs featuring a serial number assigned by John Cassels and photocopies of the images which may have been made by Thorn.'

'Where possible, photograph have been maintained within their original files. Within these files, photographs have been arranged by the serial number assigned by Cassels.'
