Kenrick, Tripolitania, Section 2 Reynold, IRT Section 1: Sabratha, situated on the narrow coastal fringe of the Gefara, was geographically the least favoured of the three cities of the Tripolis, but owed its position to the presence of a small, yet adequate, natural harbour. Recent excavation in the neighbourhood of the Forum has shown expansion of the city during the second century BC, the first century AD and culminating in a wave of prosperity under the later Antonines, when the city reached its greatest extent, and many new public buildings were built. The city was was later occupied by the Vandals, and finally fell to Arab invaders in the seventh century AD.
